Rome FCO to Sorrento-Double Check

HI! I know this is a redundant question but would someone please double check my plan here.

Land at FCO 8:00
Train from airport to Roma Termi
Train from Roma Termi to Napoli Garbaldi
Catch the 11:38 Campania Express to Sorrento.

Seems like there are several ways to skin this cat and I want to be sure my plan is going to work.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure you’ll make that 11:38 train
I wouldn’t book in advance

The station is Roma TERMINI

I wasn't going to just in case. I figure if we miss that then we can do the commuter train. That would be an ok plan B you think?

If your 8AM landing is from the US ( or UK) , it is unlikely you will get through passport control soon enough to catch a train from Termini by/before 10AM. The ride from FCO to Termini is 30 minutes.

If you are arriving from some Schengen location it will be a tight fit and require EVERYTHING to work optimally to make an 11:38AM train in Naples.

i went to italiarail.com and chose a random date, going from fco to naples:

08:23 10:28 2h 5m 1 change $48

08:38 10:33 1h 55m 1 change $48

08:53 11:03 2h 10m 1 change $48

09:38 11:33 1h 55m 1 change $48

this is taking leonardo express to rome as well, looks like the 9:38 can do it for ya at the latest

If the flight lands at 8:00 amd you check in luggage, the chances of taking that 11:38 Campania Express are very slim, in my opinion. All planets will need to be aligned perfectly in a one in a millennium astronomical event. Good luck!

Train from Roma Termi to Napoli Garbaldi

Your ticket on the high speed train from Rome to Naples will be Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. You go downstairs to Napoli Garibaldi for the train to Sorrento.

I agree that the odds are poor. You can't get an open ticket on the high speed trains. Part of the routine will be to buy the ticket on the next high speed train and that will take time. Be sure to write down before you travel the train numbers and departure times from Termini, both for the Trenitalia Frecciarossa (I don't know if Naples gets any of the Frecciargento trains) and also the .Italotreno trains - both companies work that route... have those numbers in your hand as you buy tickets and look for your train.

I appreciate this so much. Thanks!!

I might as well ask this - later in the trip we are departing Capri to head to Rome to go home. Of course we are doing this the day before our flight leaves.

I assume we take the ferry to Naples and just travel to Rome in reverse of when we came. Any pointers for the return trip?

Thanks SO very much!
