Rome (FCO) to Siena bus or train?

We fly from the USA to Rome, arriving at 10:30 am and head directly to Siena for our lodging. What is the best way to travel, train or bus? We want the comfort of a seat worthy of napping! Tour books recommend Sena bus - is it a motor coach type of bus with comfortable seats and WC? Or does the train offer more comfortable seats? Also, can we pick up something to eat at the station?

We did the bus from Siena to Roma...about 3 hours. Comfortable, scenic, and a coach bus. Highly recommend it. Probably need to get to Termini station in Rome to catch the SITA bus, though. Taxi the best bet from the airport to Termini? Best of luck!

This summer my family took the 3 hour bus ride from Rome to Siena and it was convenient and easy. The bus was a moter coach with comfortable seats and a WC. The bus stops at Piazza Gramsci which is right in the center of Seina. We took the SENA bus from Statzione Tiburtina (the other Rome train/bus station). Plenty of quick food options near the station. I do not believe you can get a bus from Rome to Siena from Statzione Termini. The disadvantage of taking the train, is that it lets you off quite a distance from the center of Siena, so you need to take a bus or taxi to the historic center. The bus from Rome to Siena is generally considered the preferred option, however, since you will be heading directly to Seina from your flight, it might make sense for you to take the train from Fiumicino (FCO) to Siena. Check the Trenitalia website for departure times. I think in your case, getting from FCO to Statzione Tiburtina to catch the bus to Siena may be way more complicated then having to take a short bus or taxi ride from the Siena train station to the historic center of Siena. The train from FCO to Siena is about 4.5 hours. The train from FCO to Tiburtina is about 1 hour plus the 3 hour bus ride to Siena. Good luck.
