Rome FCO...recent experiences?

Will be arriving on May 7 (Sunday )on BA from London. Scheduled to land at 16:20. Plan to take Leonardo Express to Termini and then fast train to Florence.

1. I have read that I can buy both Leonardo Express tickets and ticket from Termini to Florence at the airport train station. Is this correct?

  1. Not checking any bags anyone with experiences lately re: shortest and longest times to pass customs and immigration in Rome.?

The last fast train to Florence leaves at 20:50. Would hope to take an earlier train, but who knows.

  1. yes
  2. Length of queues at the passport control varies depending on the number of flights arriving simultaneously. Can't help you here since I must use the EU citizen line which has no lines, but I doubt you have to wait more than 30 min in the worst of circumstances. However you don't have to wait for luggage at the bag claim, so that is a good chunk of time you are saving. Customs is just a walk through the 'Nothing to Declare" entrance. I've never been randomly picked by the officers in 30 years of flying to Italy once or twice a year. I'm pretty sure you can make an earlier train unless your flight is horribly delayed.

I arrived at FCO last month at 09:20 on a BA flight out of Philadelphia. I was in the back of the plane so most people were ahead of me. I was through immigration in less than 10 minutes. The Officer was pushing people through as fast as he could. He grabbed my passport, took a quick look at it, stamped it, and tossed it back to me without saying a word but with a look of contempt on his face. Customs was simple – just keep on walking through the “Nothing to Declare” exit.
