Arriving 5/07 FCO 8:45am. Flight to Naples 1:45pm then bus to Sorrento arrives 5:45. Five hrs at airport--aaaack! USAir has no club lounge; Continental allows access to FlyCare Lounge for USAir Gold members flying Envoy class, which I am. Checked both airlines, FlyCare and other web sites;no one knows location of FlyCare Lounge. From past experience with spouse, prefer to avoid train to chaotic Naples termini and then Sorrento. So, plan B: toss FCO-NAP ticket ($55), take my time getting to Tiburtina Station via 1 hr on Metro, grab lite bite, board 2pm Curreri bus to Sorrento, arrive 6:15. At least I'll be moving vs sitting in FCO. Forget Marozzi, leaves 3pm. Anybody: 1)know where FlyCare Lounge is? Is it worth finding? Is it only for Internat'l Departures? (Saw some old, negative reports elsewhere) 2)Is there a Lounge for Transit passengers? 3)How's the Curreri service Rome-Sorrento?
hi Peg, can't answer your airport lounge or Curreri bus questions but this info might help your planning: a regular commuter train (not metro) runs from FCO to Tiburtina, if it's not crowded it's fairly comfortable, journey time is around 55 mins. I was at Tiburtina station last year, saw that there were plans for it to be redeveloped, not sure if construction will be going on while you're there. What I found was that there're limited eating options at the station - there's a bar (mostly standing room), a convenience store and a couple of newsstands. There was luggage storage service.
we were just at the Naples train station in October-it was under construction and calm as could be-after I had warned our friends to be careful, watch your luggage etc. You could have a driver pick you up at the Naples train station and take you to Sorrento-we used Seahorse Car Service. If you fly, the bus from the Naples airport takes you right into Sorrento. Waiting at the airport in Rome is not the worst place to spend 5 hours (your plane may be late, passport control takes time etc.)
Hi
Can any body help me with getting from Fiumicino airport to Trburtina railway station to pick up the Curreri bus to Sorrento
Thanks
This itinerary sounds more chaotic and stress producing than the Naples Termini to Sorrento option. I've never heard of anyone taking such an odd arrangement of flights, buses, and trains before. I would take the path of least resistance. Why not take the train to Naples and then a hydrofoil to Sorrento if you don't like hanging around the Naples train station.
Here are some other suggestions:
This is a zombie posting from four months ago, revived by Garth's separate question. Peg has already been to Italy and back by now. I've emailed Garth to encourage him to start a new topic.
Good advice, Michael. Just to let you know, I solved my fears/resistance to taking the C-vesuviana to Sorrento by taking the Leonardo to Rome, then the fast-train to Naples. Thanks to Mamma Agata's cooking school director, connected with a private car service that turned out to be a GEM! He's reliable, well informed, speaks perfect English, rates are competitive and fairer than most. I was SO pleased that I used his services 2 more times. I can only hope that Rick Steves reads comments by other travelers and includes him in his Sorrento/Amalfi Coast Tour Book. PEG
