Rome drought and heat wave

We will be in Rome mid September after a stop in Venice. The drought sounds like a bad one as do the soaring temps. Has anyone been there recently? We are debating whether to stay the full week or head out of the country.

Lots of people have been there recently, including me 3 weeks ago.
Temperatures currently are in the mid 30s C (mid 90s F).
Those are very typical temperatures in August in Italy. This summer has been particularly dry.

I have no idea what temperatures will be 5 weeks from now or if it will rain between now and then. Generally mid September is a very warm time of the year in Italy. Maybe not as unbearable as July and August, but if you are looking for cold weather in Rome in September you ain't going to see much.

If we in California had to leave the country every time there is a drought or temperatures go over 90F, we would rack up a lot of frequent flier miles.

Italy has a climate very similar to California, so get on with the program. This is not the first time this has happened. The highest temperature recorded in Rome on August 7 was actually in 2003, a scorching year indeed.

Rome has a big advantage given that there is a church every hundred feet. It you are too hot then duck into a church for a respite. You will discover many interesting churches that are not part of the must visit while in Rome category.

Thanks for the responses. I am a Californian and a frequent visitor to Italy.......very familiar with drought and the high temps of Rome. The 105 degree temperatures and plans to ration water soon made us want to ask others about recent trips and that is all. No complaints here about a trip to one of our favorite cities......justvlooking for updates.
