I have read somewhere that there are drinking fountains all over Rome. Is this water safe? I guess it would be otherwise wouldn't be running. Is this natural water from aqueducts and is is treated in any way?
6 days to Roma...
Thx
Yes!! Nasoni are very common, and water from these contraptions is not only safe but very good! You might also encounter a fountain-type source, flowing from a spigot into a basin.

Just don't drink water from anything marked "Acqua non potabile".
We carried our reusable water bottles throughout Rome and outher places in Italy we were always hydrated!
They are amazing and everywhere. The fountains are completely safe to drink from. When it's hot, we dump our bottles of warm water and fill up with something cool right out of the spigot.
I've used the nasoni on numerous occasions and never any problems, both for drinking and refilling my water bottle. As mentioned above, be sure to look for a sign that says "Acqua Potabile" (or non potabile, as the case may be).
The nasoni will not have signs that say 'potabile.' You only need be concerned if you see a water source with a sign that does say 'non potabile.' Otherwise, enjoy the nasoni! (& if you don't have a bottle to refill, you can put your finger over the spout, making the water jet out of the hole on top - instant drinking fountain!)
Yes! There were even a few that had sparkling water!
