input the location and the time span (up to 2 week period) you'll be there, it will neatly summarize the weather during that period in the last 10 to 12 years, and give details if you want it.

Unless you hear from someone who has been to Rome many times in December (I know of one such person on this forum), spending 5 mins with the above website will give you a more reliable indicator than someone simply saying "I was there once in December and there weather was blah blah blah."

Hi Doug,

What are the actual dates you will spend in Rome. During Christmas week itself, many sites (especially the Vatican, shops, etc) will be closed. It will be important to plan your visit to the Vatican so that you can avoid closing days and the overcrowding on days immediately following those.

The weather is generally cold. About 40-50 degrees and sometimes rainy but never snowing.

If you do have intentions of attending one of the special christmas masses etc, you will find more info about obtaining tickets to the vatican here: http://tinyurl.com/bryf6o

All in all December is a pretty peaceful time to visit Rome.

I was in Rome last Xmas holiday. I arrived on 12/24. The weather was great-but I live in MN, so 50 and cloudy beats minus 10 and snowing any day. We had some rain-bring a rain coat and umbrella-but we also had sunny days. Christmas day museums were closed, but you could still find somewhere to eat. I spent the day walking around-the Metro was closed. The road near the Colosseum was closed to traffic and there were lots of folks just walking up and down the street. Finally, even if you are not Catholic, Xmas eve mass in Rome is not to be missed. I went to Santa Maria Maggiore and it was beautiful.
