Rome cruise port to Sorrento

Hello lovely fellow travellers. I am wondering if anyone has taken a private car/driver from the Rome cruise port to Sorrento. If so, what may be the approximate cost? As another option would that be a train from the cruise port to Naples and then private car transfer Naples to Sorrento? Thank you very much for taking to time to answer.

The cruise port for Rome is in Civitavecchia which is northewest of Rome, and Sorrento is a good bit south of Naples which is south of Rome. A private car/drive will be very expensive. The train to Rome to Naples and then a driver is a much more economical way to go. If you can afford it, and want to have a car/driver transport you, consider Rome Cabs. It is a car service and not a taxi company despite the name. We've used them a number of times between Rome and the airport and have always been happy with their service. You can google them, get their email address, inform them of your needs, and you should get a reply with a cost figure within 24 hours.

Unfortunately, Civitavecchia is famous for how far it is from Rome. And Sorrento is kind of far from Rome. I'm making this up, but a car service would probably be around 500 Euros, and take 4 hours on a good day, and 6 hours on a really bad day.

You may wish to make sure your ship uses the main Cruise Terminal, because our small-ship docked directly on the pier, forcing us to use the port's free shuttle bus just to get to the municipal bus stop. Few car services are allowed onto the pier, but I think anyone can pick you up at the cruise terminal. Also try to find out when your cabin class is allowed to get off the ship, in case that comes up in your booking or train plans. Note that if you would (?) need a taxi to the Civitavecchia train station, AND a taxi to your hotel in Sorrento (say, due to luggage), each of those would be a minimum of 15 Euros, which you would "save" by taking a car all the way.

The lowest priced ride would be many modes/seats. You could walk (hot and long) to the train station, where the very cheap local train takes an hour to 1:25 to get to Termini Station in Rome. Then, if you dared to book a non-changeable (!!!) Frecciarossa ticket (but you could pay the higher walkup fare instead .... ) the train to Naples would take just over an hour. Then you'd take the escalator downstairs, and walk 100 level, marble-tile yards to the hot, crowded Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. That train takes about 1:30, I think. A car service from the Naples train station to a Sorrento hotel is likely to be around 130 Euros. After arriving by Circumvesuviana in the last week of May, we were happy to pay for a car service back to Naples!
