We are planning a cruise next year out of Rome (Civitacecchia) We would like to tack on an extra week or so to this cruise. Thinking of Venice, Nice, or other cities. Anyone have any experience with this? Ideas? Best place to fly into Europe?

We have done two cruises out of Rome and we always tack on extra time at both ends. The last time we flew into Rome and home from Zurich. The one prior was RT Rome. Nice and Venice are in opposite directions and would involve some travel. A lot will depend on the added time. A week might include only Rome and Florence. If you don't fly open jaws then you need time to back track to the airport. What time of year? The best place to fly into Europe is where you have to go.

We are thinking June 2011 for the cruise. Considered flying into Venice for a few days, our second visit to Venice, then taking the train to Rome, our first visit, then the cruise. How was Zurich?
