Rome construction: current status?

I'm going to be in Rome in two weeks, and I was wondering if anyone knows of the current/recent status of the constructions going on in Rome? Not sure if we need to be considering day trips (e.g., Oriveto, Ostia Antica) from Rome as plan B. We will be in Rome for four nights.

Thanks!

We’ve been in Rome the last four weeks and we’ve been breaking things up with day trips and overnighters - Ostia Antica, Anzio, Orvieto, Frascati.

If you’re here just four days you could probably plow through without needing to come up for air.

Still, it seems like the entire city is in the midst of some sort of project for the jubilee.

Recently in Rome. Able to get around the construction fine. But many buses were being rerouted because of construction, which made it trickier to get to some destinations. But metro taxis running fine. Plus walking is always great. Rome deserves 4 days atleast. Where are you staying?

On the plus side, while the Trevi Fountain has no water (last I knew) I saw they constructed a temporary walkway over the basin of the fountain, allowing a close look at the sculptures on the facade of the fountain, something you may not get the chance to do again.

Not sure though of the current status, or in two weeks. I would think some projects will be wrapping up as the Jubilee starts at the end of December.

If you google "Skyline webcams", then from the site select Europe/Italy/Lazio, you can see live what is happening at all the monuments, including the construction barriers. In true Italian fashion, the work seems to be running behind. People traversing the new Trevi Fountain bridge look like cattle in a chute to me.

LOL!!, of course when it was functioning, the whole area looked like a severely overloaded cattle yard, so pick your poison.

They also announced they are going to somehow cordon off the area in the future and control entry (and I suppose charge for the privilege.

I really miss the days in Rome where in an easy walk you could wander through the piazzas, into the Pantheon, by the Trevi Fountain, and even into St. Peters with no tickets, no lines, no packed crowds. Man, I'm getting old.

We are staying in Orvieto and have taken 2 day trips to Rome - the first time to the Colosseum and yesterday to the Vatican. The crowds are the smallest I have ever seen in Rome and the wears in the 60sx perfectly wonderful sightseeing. They are also just starting to put up the Christmas decorations! You will love it!
