I've just attempted to book tickets for the full Colosseum experience to include the Colosseum, the arena floor, the underground, as well as the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. At Rick's suggested booking site, Coopculture.it, the only available tickets are in March 2023. I am looking at a July booking. Any suggestions?
Ron
Tickets are only available for purchase 30 days out. I'm currently waiting for March 30th to become available.
I believe they are released 1 month ahead--I want to book my ticket for 4/29 and have my calendar noted to check on 3/29. If I can't get it through the official site I will use a 3rd party...while I would love to see the underground area, I understand those tickets sell out ridiculously fast so I will be fine with the main floor plus the Forum and Palatine Hill ticket.
This page of the Coopculture site spells out the ticket release timing:
https://www.coopculture.it/en/article/notice-for-colosseum-archaeological-park/
"For the Full Experience Underground and Arena ticket there are monthly and weekly releases."
- the monthly release is activated 720 hours (24h x 30d) before each single time slot.
- the weekly release is activated 168 hours (24h x 7d) before each single time slot.
So they won't be available for dates in July until 30 days before desired date, and 24 hours for each time slot.
I mentioned this in the other thread you posted to, Ron, but the "Full Experience Ticket with access to the Arena and Underground of the Colosseum" and "The wonders of the Colosseum: visiting the Underground and the Arena" are the most difficult ticket to any attraction in Rome to get hands on. People go to great lengths to try and do it, and tickets for high/shoulder seasons disappear minutes after becoming available.
Honestly, if you can't get them, go 2nd best and see if you can land the "Full Experience Ticket with access to the Arena of the Colosseum" ticket. It has been reported to have been a good fallback as you can see down into uncovered parts of the underground from there. You can see uncovered parts from above on the route included in the least expensive "Ticket Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine_24h" ticket as well as the arena/underground tickets.
Good luck!!!! 🤞
Thank you all for your very valuable information. Now I can relax.
Just a heads up, plan on getting up in the middle of the night to get your tickets. I was up at 2:00 am (9:00 am rome time) this morning to get my tickets for March 30th. The only tickets I saw available for this date were 8 tickets for the full experience—colosseum and arena. Now, all ticket types are showing no availability for that date. I don’t know if it’s always like that, but I was surprised to see so many sold out dates and limited availability for March. I can’t imagine what it’s like trying to get tickets in the summer.
Hi, Sorry to hijack the thread, but on the same note may i ask if the ticket available for purchase 30 days before visit date applies to "TICKET COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINE_24H" as well?
Yep, Carrie has seen firsthand just how fast these tickets sell out. You will need to be up in the middle of the night, (or whatever corresponding Rome time is in your area) dialed in and ready to rock. Tickets for each slot are limited to 25 or so, and you'll be competing with travelers from all over the world for them.
One more option for Ronald:
If the goal is the underground, Coopculture offers a night tour of that part + the arena. These tours usually start mid-May and run through the end of the year; they haven't announced the 2023 start dats yet.
The downside: these tickets do not include entry to the Forum and Palatine so if you want to visit those sites (open during the day only) you have to purchase a separate ticket. It also doesn't include the "ordinary route" included in the "Regular Entrance" ticket and daytime Underground/Arena ticket.
movexz, yes, those tickets are also available only 30 days out. If you click on this link, click on “check availability” to see the calendar for those tickets.
https://www.coopculture.it/en/products/ticket-colosseum-roman-forum-palatine_24h/
As of today, tickets are available up to March 30. A green square indicates tickets are available for that date. A red square indicates no tickets are available for that date.
We will be in Rome end of March. I just looked at the 27-28 dates and It looks like the full experience with access to the Colosseum (except underground) is available with afternoon time slots. This ticket allows for 2 days of visiting the other sites. Can someone just confirm, can we start with one of the other sites in the morning before our timed entry to the coloseum? Is that when the clock starts on the 2 days? The English translation on the website isn't quite clear.
@sanomh
I had the same question so I did a google search. This website says that if you booked colosseum on one day, you can go to Rome Forum/Palatine Hill on the day before, the same day, or the day after.
https://www.romewise.com/colosseum-full-experience.html#full-experience-how-it-works
@feiliao
Thank you that's very helpful. We still haven't decided whether we'll do the colosseum this trip, but it makes planning easier.
If you book a Colosseum tour with a tour guide which includes the Forum, will you get a tour guide at the Forum?
kbeg123, Coopculture does not currently have a tour which includes a human guide at the Forum and/or Palatine; only at the Colosseum. If you want a guided tour of all 3 archeological sites, you'll want to book with a tour company which offers one, such as...
https://theromanguy.com/tours/italy/rome/colosseum-dungeons-tour-with-roman-forum-palantine-hill
https://www.walksofitaly.com/rome-tours/colosseum-underground-tours/
https://www.walksofitaly.com/rome-tours/roman-colosseum-tours/
https://www.througheternity.com/en/rome-tours/colosseum-tour-ancient-rome.html
There are others but these 3 companies are often recommended by forum posters.
What time (local time in Rome) do these tickets go on sale 30 days before?
@confusedtraveler
Go to the website https://www.coopculture.it/en/article/notice-for-colosseum-archaeological-park/ and read down to method of release; it gives more detail.
Hello-
I just returned from Rome. I got up at 3:00 CST 30 days in advance to get my tickets which were for Saturday April 8 at 10:00 am. This is what I learned, just book any ticket that you can get! I had to buy tickets with an audio guide included when I hired a private guide. I could not get arena floor and honestly, you don’t need it! You see everything from above. IF you need to, buy your tickets with a French speaking guide- just for the tickets. This is a secret that no one knows about. The website provides many different types of tickets besides a general entry ticket. Also, tickets are released randomly throughout the day after your 30 day date has passed. They seem to be later in the day tickets. You just have to be diligent and wake up early for a day or two.
I've been reviewing the Colosseum ticketing threads and am still a bit unclear on the release of tickets by hour. Is the release occurring on a rolling basis aligned to the time slot you want to tour e.g., 4pm Rome = 10am EST or are all times for the day being released at the opening time (9 am)? I looked at 9 and 10 today for 3 and 4pm tickets on 5/26 but they were already sold out. Does it vary depend on if you're doing a tour vs stand alone tickets? Thank you
Hello, I am trying to get the underground, arena floor full experience ticket from co-op site. I know they release tickets 30 days out but I haven’t been able to find any info on what time slot(s) they sell 30 days out.
Ok, Question here, if you are able to purchase underground/arena Colosseum tickets, through coopculture, these do not include the guide? That was my understanding after reading it. But You can only use them with a guide? Where is the best place to hire a guide? Also, I just want to verify - we don't need to purchase a ticket for the guide? And with 2 children that will be 10 years old, they are not charged for the actual ticket? Sorry for all the questions.
paigerenee369 , we did this in November 2021 (purchasing our tickets directly through Coopculture), and our visit included a guide.
I can't answer the question about the children, as that did not apply to our situation.
Hi! We just purchased Colosseum tickets, and found this forum post to be very helpful. We also wanted to add additional information that might assist. Best website to start with was: https://www.coopculture.it/en/poi/colosseum/. Make sure to scroll all the way down and keep clicking the "+ Show More" button. Watch the calendar as it opens for the date(s) that you want to purchase for. Consider alternative ticket types that get you into the Colosseum if your first choice ticket is not available. Each type of ticket offered is still a ticket. Consider booking any available ticket, prioritizing your 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.
It is true that the tickets are released in continuous rolling 24-hour increments. However, certain types of tickets are released in 10 minute increments on the :00, :05, :10, :15, etc. BEWARE - I kept refreshing my browser and got Blocked because it thought I was a Bot. I tried two computers and two phones. All were blocked, even though I tried different browsers (chrome, Edge) and even different logins. Eventually, I was able to get through - booking a tour in Italian using a VPN.
I ended up calling them several times. They were great at answering the phones without a long wait. However, once I got someone on the phone, they were not that helpful. Tickets were always 'sold out' for the available 5 minute interval, but they would not hold on the line for 3 more minutes to help me with the next batch of ticket release because they needed to answer other calls on the line.
Anyway, just wanted to add additional information. Hope this helps!
Has any one had any luck booking a tour with Viator to the Colosseum? If tix are so hard to get on one’s own, is it better to book with an outside tour company ? It certainly makes me wonder how third parties get tickets yet individual travelers have all sorts of trouble.
natique2, this is a really old thread, and ticketing info will be changing VERY soon.
As Bets posted to your other thread, the official ticketing vendor for the park (Parco Archeological del Colosseo) is going to change in February. Please reference the official website (which currently is only active during business hours) for ticketing info.
https://colosseo.it/en/
https://colosseo.it/en/opening-times-and-tickets/
About the new ticketing service:
https://colosseo.it/en/2023/11/parco-archeologico-del-colosseo-signed-the-contract-with-the-new-ticketing-system-provider/
They are working on making tickets more available. While we'll need to see what transpires with the new service on Feb. 1, it'll still likely to be too far out to book anything for June...but we'll see. Viator is a third-party clearing house; I'd only use it as a last resort,
Found this older thread and have so many questions. Super happy to see the last two comments as I hope to go to the Colosseum, on the 29th of February! So I am a bit confused on when I need to buy a ticket, and where. This is my husbands dream, heck I don't even really want to go to Italy! I am doing this all for him! So I really need these tickets. I really badly want to get him the full access with arena and underground, as that is what he wants. I thought I needed to go to Co Op Culture (?) at like 3am EST to get the tickets...so tomorrow. But now I am confused that may no longer be the site I need to go too.....Any help would be beyond gratefully appreciated!!!
Hi! Im headed to Rome this week. Would like to book the best experience for the colosseum on Feb 2nd, if its available. Can someone help direct as to what and where to book. I know its last min and may not be available but going to try! Looks like full experience is available on Feb 2nd. Id like a guide or at least a headset to listen to what we are seeing, but not seeing a place to book that. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cindy. you can still order tickets on the Coopculture site...at least for now.
This is the official info website for the Colosseum.
https://colosseo.it/en/
Under "Visit" in the top menu bar is a red box labeled :"Tickets": click on it.
On the page that comes up, click "Buy Ticket and info" under "Full Experience",
Read some of the info that's on the page, then scroll to the bottom and click "Buy Ticket"
That throws you into the Coopculture ticketing website.
You'll want to purchase the "ENGLISH DIDACTIC VISIT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FULL EXPERIENCE TICKET"
This is the page for purchase:
https://ecm.coopculture.it/index.php?option=com_snapp&view=event&id=490E25D6-2465-ED3A-6A13-016ED583FB68&catalogid=238D971A-D296-07C6-7A82-0174490F9C7B&lang=en
I see that the 29th is grayed out on the calendar so tickets for that day are not yet available but guessing they should be either later today or first thing tomorrow ROME time.
I expect them to sell out very quickly once available. If you really want them, I'm guessing you should get up very early and be online by 9:00 AM Rome time. Or, make The husband do it as he's the one who wants the tickets! :O). Good luck!
PS: hope you change your mind about Rome. It really is a fascinating city!
To add:
This page of the park's official website (not the Coopculture site) states that tickets for the €22,00 Full Experience ticket - which allows access to arena and underground with a staff member but, at that price, is NOT a tour - are "Purchasable at the ticket office in Piazza del Colosseo on the day of the visit". If you go this route, I'd be in line at the ticket office designated ticket office well before it opens. Your entire party must be with you when you buy tickets, and have your passports on you as all tickets are nominative to help avoid scalpers buying them up. They'll be checking your tickets against your ID (passports) at the entrance to make sure they match. Not sure you're given a choice of times; pretty sure you may need to take whatever is available.

See the FAQs at bottom of the page.
Kathy! Grazie mille! For some reason I can't seem to access the links for the Colosseum. Perhaps the site is having some issues at this time, I will keep trying. For clarification you are saying the full experience tickets I hope to buy off Co Op Culture for full experience, won't include a tour guide (in english)? If we want a tour guide, we need to wait in line day of, with our pre purchased tickets and buy a tour guide ticket? Sorry, I'm a bit out of my element here. This is like THE reason I am hoping on a 10 hr plane flight with him, is this tour. I guess I just figured everyone goes here, so I had no clue it would be such a challenge to get a tour for.
And you are so sweet, if only it was that easy to demand he book his own ticket. If I leave this to him, I would most likely have just booked not cheap flights to Italy to have a tour of a Quick Trip facility in Rome Alaska. No, in order for me to sleep at night, it is best I do this for us. Yea, I am a bit of a control freak, but it works in our marriage :) And further clarification, I am not ditching Italy. I have never been, so I am trying so hard to reserve my judgement. I am just not a city girl. I'm finding Italy a bit overwhelming. I've planned and executed driving two weeks around Ireland, two weeks around Scotland, two weeks around England, and then even two weeks driving around Northern France. That ended with a couple days of me walking around Paris, which surprised me and I fell in love with. But our city visits have always been very limited, as I am more of a rural touring girl. I am finding this whole take trains everywhere and be aware of pickpockets and muggings, is a bit rattling. Trying hard to settle myself. Trying to learn the language and just do as much research as I can. Thank you so much for your help!!!
The Colosseum's own site, which is...
https://colosseo.it/en/
...only seems to come up during the hours, ROME TIME, that the park is open.
That's not true of the Coopculture ticketing site (as long as it's still the ticketing site, anyway) as I can get into it right now. So if you want the Full Experience as an escorted tour in English, you need to order this ticket; you can skip going through the Colosseo site.
It's € 32.00 per adult plus a € 2.00 service fee. The tour is for the Colosseum only: the ticket also provides entry to the Forum and Palatine but no tour for those two sections.
I am finding this whole take trains everywhere and be aware of
pickpockets and muggings, is a bit rattling
Pish, There are pickpockets right here in the US. Just don't put anything of value into a purse or exterior pocket and you'll be fine. I wouldn't walk about with your nose in your phone either but heck, I don't do that HERE. There are lots of tips on this site for keeping your goodies in your hands and out of someone else's, and the vast majority of us have come home with everything we left with, minus what we spent on the pasta, the gelato, the wine.... HA! Trains? Take a deep breath and ask us for help; tell us where you plan to go. We love the trains; they beat flying any way you shake it. Muggings also almost NEVER happen; physical violence is very rare so do not worry.
The historic center of Rome is probably going feel different that most others you've maybe experienced. For one thing, there are really no skyscrapers; there's the piazzas, the churches, the architecture, the gorgeous fountains, the many-centuries-old stuff everywhere. Sure, it's a busy place but I'm guessing if you liked Paris, you'll like Rome once you get to know her. :O)
Just to add: any NEW questions on anyone's trips should be posted as NEW threads, please. Poor Ron, who started this one almost a year ago, is probably getting email alerts on Q-and-A posts that have nothing at all to do with his own trip last July. :O)
