Hi All,
Heading to Rome next month and trying to purchase my "skip the line" tickets to the Colosseum per Rick's suggestion (https://www.coopculture.it/en/colosseo-e-shop.cfm). However, the site is super confusing, and it says the general ticket is only good after 2pm. I don't mind getting a ticket for a specific time (maybe even prefer it) but those options say "three monthly", "monthly", or "weekly" and I have no idea what this means. I don't want to go in a group. Any tips would be great. Open to buying from whatever site is valid and makes sense. Thanks in advance!
Hi brodskyv -
If you purchase your "open" ticket before June 1, you can enter the Colosseum on any day before 2:00 PM even if not visiting until after June 1. If you purchase that ticket on or after June 1, then you are restricted to no earlier than 2:00 PM.
So just go to this page:
If you are an adult over age 18 or older, you want to choose "Full Ticket + Reservation Fee, β¬ 14.00". Choose number of tickets and "Adulto Extra EU" if not an E.U. citizen (although I don't think it really matters). Add to cart.
All done: just check out by filling in the requested info. If you are not traveling with children, choose the "print at home" option: you'll be sent a voucher that you'll print out and bring with you to show at the entrance.
If you prefer to book a specific entry day/time, go to this page:
http://ecm.coopculture.it/index.php?option=com_snapp&view=event&id=D746C546-77AF-4A1A-03BE-0161AE477A35&catalogid=E2985DBA-41A7-2D3A-0C7A-0161B2D40436&lang=en
Click the calendar forward to June and click the date you want. A list will appear underneath the calendar showing tickets available at individual times. Choose a time. On the page that comes up, choose "FULL TICKET individuals entrance" (that's an adult ticket) and number of tickets you want. Add to cart and check out same as above.
Make sense? Do understand that with advance tickets you skip the TICKET line but not the SECURITY queue: no one skips that one.
This is so helpful, thank you! I feel bad for people buying after June 1! I wouldn't want my day restricted to after 2pm.
Very glad that was helpful! Yes, that site has gotten to be a bit of a hairball what with so many options! Eeeesh.
Don't feel too badly for people visiting June 1 or after: Same as you, they have the option of choosing an advance, timed-entry ticket if need be. I also posted a heads up on this forum a week or so ago, and don't believe that the 2 PM restriction applies to people using the Roma Pass, or haven't seen that it does, anyway.
Checking on you again: did you successfully get your ticket booked?
Purchased! I had to do some google translating (the payment page was in Italian) and email verification translating (confirmation email was also in Italian) but I think (hope) I'm squared away! Thanks for checking in!
If you plan to have the Roma Pass, do you choose the "Free Ticket + Reservation Fee" option?
You do not have to purchase anything if using the Roma Pass: that's what the pass is for. Unless they change procedures, you can enter the Colosseum once with your pass on any date or time it's open and will skip the ticket line. You may still have a wait for security clearance but no one skips that queue.
From the coopculture website:
"Please note that for safety reasons the Colosseum can accommodate up to 3.000 people at once. This could lead to delays in access to the site, even for pre-booked visitors. βFor security reasons all visitors and their luggage shall be screened. To facilitate the security checks please insert any object (including mobile phone) in the bag/backpack or in the tray to be included in the X-ray."
(edited out previous question about children: a look back at your posts tells me you aren't traveling with young folks)
We are not arriving in Rome till noon, check into apartment, then on to sightseeing. We are near the colosseum so for us the after 2 pm tickets would work well.Got on the website- trying hard to figure it out !
Meant to add, should I wait till June 1st to get tickets so as to skip the line ?
Kathy, can you start a NEW thread with your question, and please include pertinent information such as who you're traveling with and their ages, if traveling with young people? It makes a difference. In any case, no, I would not wait until you get to Rome to purchase "open" tickets unless you intend on doing that online when in Rome.
The June 1-or-after-date thing is irrelevant when it comes to "skipping the line." It only applies to people purchasing on or after that date who want to get in on an open ticket before 2:00 PM so need to buy a timed-entry ticket. Anyone with a pre-purchased ticket or pass skips the TICKET line but not security-check queues. Length of that queue can vary.
