Rome - city to Cruise Terminal

There will be 4 of us going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise May 5-12, 2013 from Rome (Citavecchia). Can you tell me the best(easiest/cheapest) way to get to the Cruise Ship Terminal from the Centro Storico area of the city where we will be staying for a few days prior? Boarding between 1-3pm. Thanks.

The very excellent Ron in Rome has done the work for you. Check out his very helpful website here: Cruising to Rome

Easiest is to book a car. Cheapest is to take a train from Termini station which runs regularly. The stations have no porters. Baggage was an issue for us, so we booked with romecabs.com and shared the cost with two other couples on the cruise. If you want a car service, I recommend romecabs which is very reliable with good vehicles and English-speaking drivers.

If you want to take the train, it is easy and cheap to do. It is a commuter run, three/four trains an hour depending on time of day, ranging from 45 mins to an hour 15, 8 to 12 E, again, depending on the train. Once at the train terminal, a short walk along beach (half mile or so) to the port entrance and from there a shuttle bus to your ship's check in point. Allow a couple of hours. We have done it four times.

If you decide on the train, there is a shuttle bus that runs from THE GATE
to your ship. Do NOT try to walk all the way..take the shuttle.

We have also used romecabs.com a number of times and will do so again.
