I am planning a trip to Rome in early December and want to make sure I don't miss the Christmas market. Can anyone help me figure out when it begins? I have heard two different things...the first Sunday after advent and December 8. Thanks!
Kim,
As per this website, the market starts on 12-8 and runs through Epiphany, January 6th at Piazza Navona. There are also many other "displays" around the city such as the Nativity at St. Peter's and the exhibition near Piazza Popolo - see below!
Rome can be very beautiful at XMAS!

Also - Exhibition of Nativity Scenes
From end November to 6 january, there is a yearly exhibition of over 200 nativity scenes at the Sala del Bramante (Piazza del Popolo). It is open 9:30am - 8pm daily. The cribs exhibited are made by craftsmen: those on display are cribs in the traditional design. There are also cribs dating back to the period between 1500-1700, the golden age of this particular craft.
Don't forget to pick up your Befana ornament!!!
