Rome Christmas Eve and Day - places to eat and visit

We'll be arriving in Rome (our first visit) this Christmas Eve and staying for 5 days. I would appreciate any recommendations for restaurants or places to eat within walking distance of Piazza Navona. I hear that reservations are necessary during this time. Any suggestions on how I can book for USA before I leave? We prefer low key but authentic places and preferably with vegetarian options. We are staying in an apartment and are OK with take out options (like Julius Meinl in Vienna). I also noticed in the guidebooks that most of the restaurants are closed on Monday - this sounds like 3 days of planning for meals ahead. Tx

Low key and authentic, although not unknown to tourists since it is so close to Piazza Navona, we've eaten Christmas Eve dinner at Antica Taverna three times. It has been an all fish menu, prix fixe, although I do not know for certain what their plans are for this year. You can reserve online at Quandoo.

BTW, yes plan ahead especially for the 24th and 25th. There are some great choices in the Ghetto for Christmas Day. We have enjoyed Il Giardino Romano twice on holidays. You can send a message but calling is better, and do NOT put it off. Call tomorrow when they are open.
