Rome car rental

Hi Travelers!

I’m looking to rent a minivan in Rome for 11 days and drop it off in Verona.

Any experiences (good or bad) with renting a car from the train station?

The plan is visit Tivoli garden in the morning and then spend the afternoon/evening in Orvieto. We have 13 in our group so will be getting 3 cars in total.

Does it make sense to transfer all of us to the train station and leave from there or is there another location or option that would be better? We are staying a few blocks from the Pantheon and would like get the car around 8:00 am on a Wednesday in June.

I’m looking at renting from Hertz though Autoeurope, but haven’t booked anything yet.

Alternately, are there are services that can deliver rental cars to hotels?

Your hotel is in a pedestrian zone, so you can’t drive there

I would pick up from the Termini station.
The rental companies are actually located in this parking structure, although the rental desk may be at the station itself.

Alison, before you rent a vehicle in Italy, please read this and download their ebook.

You will also need an IDP for each driver. This is a translation of your drivers license. There's a €400 fine for not having one.

First you need to know if you drive in Rome, you're sure to hit a ZTL zone or a bus lane. These are €100 fines.

For your trip to Tivoli and Orvieto, are you planning this as a single day trip from Rome?

Both of these areas by the time you figure in transportation, lunch and exploring will take up most of the day.

Is there any way you could stop in Orvieto for the night on your way to Verona?
