ROME & Capri

Flying w/elderly mom into Rome and for sure want to spend 3 days in Capri. 1) Would you suggest going straight from Rome to Capri on our first day, or staying in Naples a couple of days 1st? 2) has anyone stayed in the Anacapri B&B Da Gelsomina? Are bus rides from Anacapri to Capri simple? 3) Is it worth going from Capri to Sorrento for just 2 days/1 night ? Or better off going straight back to Rome and spending 4 instead of 3 nights there? Thanks so much for any suggestions.

I would think traveling from Rome to Capri after an international flight would be too much. You would have to get the train into Rome, then a train to Naples or Sorrento - then a boat to Capri. I don't think I could make it all that way without a night in between.
The year we went to Capri, we stayed the first night in Rome, then traveled to Capri the next day. You can see Sorrento for a few hours before or after you take the boat to Capri. I would spend the last few nights in Rome over Sorrento since even 4 nights won't be enough to see everything in Rome.

As mentioned by the previous poster it is a difficult trip to Capri from Rome after an international flight. But it can be done but would be difficult with luggage. You also don't mention when you are going but currently it is the off season and not much is open in either location nor how ambulatory your mother is. We are currently traveling through Italy and are an active senior couple. We went last week from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train and spent the night before taking the jet boat to Capri (jet boats can be taken from Naples as well). Once you get to Capri you can either hire a taxi to Anacapri or take the local bus. Buses are easy to get from Anacapri to Capri but are really small, more like an airport shuttle bus size and fill up fast but are fairly often and cheap. Capri is beautiful but there is not much to do there if you are not into hiking or swimming. Sorrento can be done in a day. Both locations are really hilly and have cobblestone streets.

Thank you for your suggestions! Convinced just getting from FCO airport to Naples would be more than enough when we get off the plane! My mom had been ill and can't really carry her bag and tires after a few hours. That's why we need to spend at least 2 nights in each place, so we don't have to carry our luggage with us, and have a couple of days to explore at each place. We plan on going the week after Easter (April 27- May 6). Than should be time enough for 1 night or 2 nights in Naples first, Capri and Rome, right? Is the trek from Naples center to the Hydrofoil Marian very difficult? Is there a bus? any suggestions on moderate B&B or hotels in Naples? Rome? Thank you so much again and happy travels!
