Rome: Bus, Subway or Taxi

Good Morning Fellow Travelers, I once again start this question with a thank you. I am approaching my Italy trip at the end of May (my first vacation in 6 years, and first with my wife since my honeymoon) and you all have been extremely helpful in giving me advice. I thank you. I have been to rome on 2 different occasions and tend to walk as much as i can to enjoy the city and cut down on transportation costs. However, I am arriving at Roma Tiburtina railway station and have a set itinerary for the day starting at the Vatican, and walking my way west thru out the day. My question is this. Does anyone here know of a bus or subway that takes me from Roma Tiburtina railway station to St Peters? Or is it just easier to grab a cab. There are 4 of us in the group and splitting the cost of a taxi might make it worth it. Later, i will need another cab back. Thank you all for you help

Bus #492, direction "Cipro" will take you to Piazza Risorgimento with no changes. Buy a ticket before you get on the bus. Better yet, buy a multi-day pass. Saves time and money, works on bus, metro, tram.

Are the four of your arriving with luggage? If so, you'll want to drop it off at your hotel first. OR, is this a day trip ("Later, i will need another cab back.")? I prefer staying above ground and use buses and trams; the metro rarely goes where I want to go, anyway. IF you want another Roman experience, DO split a taxi fare; are you a praying man? ;-)
