Rome- best options from Colosseum to Vatican

What is the best way to travel from the Colosseum to the Vatican in Rome (in August)?

Assuming you have no mobility issues and you're in no rush it is about a 45-60 minute walk, with plenty of interesting sites along the way. By bus it probably takes you 30-40 minutes. We walked everywhere, not once did we need public transport.

we had a very very nice walk from the Colosseum to the Vatican but then when we got there we had no legs left to enjoy the Vatican, I would take an Uber
or the metro which is very easy in Rome

Hey carol,

Probably the metro would be the quickest (unless you took a Roma cab, but even then - traffic, etc.)

Take the metro from Colosseo, Line B to Stazione Termini. At Termini, take the subway, Line A to the Cipro stop. Less than 20 mins. if on time.

quick note: In August, it will be jam packed. Watch your bag(s) carefully. With a cross body, put your hand over the zip opening. A backpack, make sure you don't keep valuable at the top - easy access for a thief.

In crowds is where fast fingers tip toe in and take what they can. They jump off the next stop, doors close, you can't do anything - unless you catch them in the act.

We walked it but yes, metro would be easy. Just be aware that you'd have to change from Line B to Line A at Termini.
Taxi is another option (only Uber Black in Rome and it's reported to be just as expensive or more than a cab).

Editing to add: you can switch metro lines on a single 1.50 € BIT ticket PP. as long as you don't go outside of the turnstiles. Only children under 10 ride free so everyone in your party would need a ticket.

But some important details based on your past posts? I see that you are traveling with 14 people ages 10 -73. You did not post your complete itinerary but there is NO way I'd try to visit both the Colosseum and the Vatican on the same day, if that is what you're intending on doing and if that can be avoided. Trying to do too much during the heat of August, trying to do both of Rome's most crowded attractions into one day and moving a group the size and diversity of yours around are all complications that could make for a less-than-wonderful experience.

So can you provide more detail? What's the larger plan that has you traveling from Colosseum to Vatican on the same day? is it just because your accommodations are in the Colosseo area and you are not intending on doing both attractions in a single day?

We took a taxi but we really didn't check out the metro or bus situation just felt more comfortable in a taxi. I agree with the previous post. Don't try to do both in 1 day. Split it up!

In Rome now staying by the Colosseum. The metro is very easy to ride. It’s 94 today, I wouldn’t even think of walking in this heat to the Vatican.
