rome B and B

I would like to find a quaint family owned hotel, guesthouse or B and B, with a good breakfast and nice owners. Either near to the Vatican or central Rome. Or at lest close to transportation. I do not want to be in a 5 star place. I want to experience Italy small room and bathroom are fine> I not even care of the owners speak English as I am willing to learn Italian. Just need a queen bed as my hubby is 6 feet 4 and over 300 lbs. I saw a nice hotel on Ricks Italy video but it was too expensive and booked up. It was hotel Oceania. I want to stay at around 100 US per night. Can I get any recommendations please Michelle Campbell

For the last few years we have been staying at a relatively new b&b called Armonio All' Opera located across the street from the Roma Opera House on Via Viminale. It is on the 4th floor accessed by an antique elevator. The owner speaks English and the place is really nice. It is highly rated on venere.com and tripadvisor.com. The owners family is in the furniture manufacturing business and all of the furniture comes from their factory. Buon viaggio,

We've used this website (http://www.b-b.rm.it/) B & B Association of Rome to find a place in Rome - unfortunately, it's an expensive city. This nice thing about this website is that you can customize your search - near the Vatican is probably your best bet for less expensive options.

We spent five nights this past May at Domus Cavour B&B, which is located in the Prati district (fairly close to Vatican and very close to both bus and Metro transportation to anyplace else.) We enjoyed the place very much, and you do get to know the owner Cristiano, who is a bit of a character. Breakfast very good. You can find other reviews on Trip Adviser. For when we stayed, the room was 120 euro/night if you paid cash, 10 euro more for card. I realize this is more than what you listed, but we thought the place was a good value. Hope you have a great trip!

You don't say when you'll be there and that can influence price. That said, US$100 per night is very low for Rome and you won't be able to be very picky at that rate. When are you traveling?

I recommend The Home in Rome Kosher B&B (you don't need to be Jewish to stay there). Since it is not in central Rome it is cheaper (we paid 85 Euros per night in late May for a couple - the bathroom however was shared). Quiet and restful. It is a 5 minute walk to the Metro station (Bologna) and from there it was only a 10-15 minute Metro ride to the Colosseum. The owners are a family, very friendly and helpful, great breakfast. You can easily find this B&B on TripAdvisor where you will find it consistently has a very high rating.
I'm 6 foot 4 and had no problem with the bed by the way.

We stayed in march 2013 at Ancient Rome B & B. Very reasonable, clean and comfortable. My spouse is a bigger guy like yours, the bed was huge and so was the shower. We stayed in the downstairs room, not sure what the other rooms were like. Very reasonable price too.
