Hello! Traveling to Rome in mid-August, when it will be hot. Trying to travel from Hawaii with one carry-on for 3 weeks. I know there are dress codes for places like the Vatican. Are long pants (covering ankles) necessary, or could one get by with mid-calf pants (capri or pedal-pusher type pants)?
Thanks, Anne
It is knees and shoulders that have to be covered - not ankles.
Thanks, Frank! That's what I thought and what I read in Rick Steve's Italy book, but just wanted to double check!
Aloha, Anne
There is some confusion/disagreement about whether men can get away with wearing long shorts that cover the knees in St. Peter's. To be on the safe side, men should wear pants that day. Wouldn't you hate to be turned away?
