I am trying to make the most of our 2 1/2 days in Rome. I have the Night walk but was wondering is there are certain sights that are best at night or perhaps sunset?
When are you going to be there?
Visiting the Trevi Fountain at night is one of my favorite memories of Rome...but it is going to be under repair for a year or so.
Part of the Spanish Steps are also covered in scaffolding. All of the monuments at night are beautiful. I like the Pantheon best.
If in the next couple of months, Castel Sant'Angelo has evening hours and special tours. There is wonderful show at the Foro di Agosto, too. Many museums are open until 8 pm and it can be a wonderful time to find them less crowded.
I will be traveling in mid Sept. 12-23, the last days in Rome
The view of the forum at night from Capitoline Hill is spectacular. St. Peter's and Castle St Angelo are also pretty at night.
Piazza Navona. Currently the best fountain in Rome. :)
If you are near the Castel Sant'Angelo late in the day, it's worth going inside. The view of the sunset from the upper levels is beautiful, as is the view of the golden light on the nearby buildings.
