Rome-Assisi and Assisi-Florence Train Tix

Thanks to everyone for the advice about booking directly on Trenitalia.com. I've booked a couple of high-speed tix and got what seemed to be good family discounts (my husband and I are traveling with two kids under 12). However, I don't see more than one option for Rome-Assisi the day we want to travel (late June) -- and the same for Assisi-Florence. Is this because these are considered regional trains with no high-speed options so we can't book in advance? I'm OK with buying at the station there but our itinerary is pretty set so trying to save time and hassle where I can since we'll have kids in tow :-).

Thanks,
Wendy

They can only be bought one week in advance, and there is absolutely no reason to do that. There will be no discount and no seat reservations, nor will the trains likely be full. You don't even have to use a particular train, so if you missed the one you intended to take, hop on the next one. Just make sure you VALIDATE these tickets, unlike the fast trains, or you will get a huge fine that is payable on the spot.

You can buy tickets for Assisi-Florence when you first get to the Assisi train station. It's a small station and the tickets are sold at the tabacchi shop.
