Planning on taking three teenage boys to Italy this summer. It's their first time and they are very interested in history. Figured we would see Rome and then head to Venice. Only want to stay a week or so.
Not sure what your question is, if there is one, but if so, this might give you some insight on what to see/do

If you do not have one yet you should get a guide book
For a trip 'this summer' you are way late in planning.
And your question is.....?
Venice is great for teenagers, in that you can just boot them out of the hotel and tell them not to reappear until the evening. No traffic, no crime, you can’t get lost much because you are on an island, many young people hanging around as Venice is a significant university city.
Campo Margherita is where Venice’s youth seem to gather.
If possible, fly into Venice and out of Rome. This will maximize your time and avoid a 0 dark departure from Venice.
3 nites Venice. 4 nights Rome.
