Hi Fellow Travelers. If I take one organized tour in Rome and one in Venice, what would you recommend.
In Rome, I always recommend a guided, private if possible, tour of the Colosseo/Foro Romano/Palatino complex. It is just too confusing to do alone. My favorite guide is Sonia Tavoletta, [email protected].
In addition, a small group tour of the Vatican is very nice. Look at the Pristine Sistine tour by Walks of Italy.
We took the Secret Itineraries tour of the Doge Palace in Venice. It was fine, but nothing compared to the two I mentioned above.
Rome - The walking food tour of Trastevere - Eat Italy. Small group. Fun to socialize with others. Gets you off the beaten path. Friendly guides who like to chat with you about any topic.
Venice - we used the RS free audio guide for Frari Church and toured that church on our own. Easy to use in Frari Church.
We enjoyed Walks of Italy in Rome. Our favorite small group tour was the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill.
In Venice we plan to take a couple tours with freetourvenice.com. It was highly recommended on this Forum. One tour is an introduction to the city, the other features Landmarks. It's emphasis is "off the beaten path."
Eat Italy also do a walking food tour of the Testaccio area of Rome which is a very interesting and historic area of Rome well off the usual tourist track. The food was superb!
In Venice we've used this one. Great guides, very informative. We did 2 of them, one in the morning and one afternoon. Tip 5-10€.
Thank you all for those excellent ideas. Very helpful
