We arrive and depart Rome to spend 12 nights in Italy in early June 2015. We are so excited to see Italy, eat good food, have some good wine, and enjoy some country lifestyle (we are not really city people). We hope to find an agritourismo w a pool as one of the highlights for our little one, maybe 5-7 nights? Should we spend a night or two in Rome on each end? Venture to Cinque Terra for some variety? Suggestions on itineraries, things to do, places and things to see? We're pretty sure museums and a lot of walking might wear out quickly.
I suggest looking at villa rental in Tuscany. A villa near one of the hilltowns in Tuscany sounds like something you might enjoy. You'll likely get some recommendations here but you can start by Google searching agritourismo or villa's in Tuscany. A few years ago we rented a unbelieveable villa w/ swimming pool within walking distance of Cortona. The sooner you find a place the sooner you can secure a place to stay as June is only a short time away.
Your 4-year-old will be a rock star.
Note that laws about swimming pool access may be different than you think, don't expect childproof pool access.
I would also expect swimming pools to be heated by the sun, not artificially. That was my experience at the couple of places in Italy where I had pool access.
Thanks for the warning on possible cold pools! Don't want to scare away our new swimmer.
Any thoughts on villa rentals, where to find reliable sources of good ones? Any itinerary ideas? Suggestions for side trips or a couple of nights in other places? We do want to get on this, as true...June is not far when you want to find good spots!

We stayed at Villa Fabbroni (www.villafabbroni.com) a couple of years ago with a small group. It was about an hour outside of Florence. It had a swimming pool (heated by sun). Very pleasant stay and wonderful hosts - Sergio and Stefano.
For villa rentals I've had good experiences with VRBO, but my first attempt years ago for a group of 14 was with Parkervillas. I was very green and was extremely pleased with their extra hand holding. They are very good at comparing various properties for what you are looking for. You are speaking with a native English speaker from the beginning, and if anything should go awry once you arrive in Italy, they've got your back.
Italy is also uniquely child friendly. Buon viaggio!
