Rome and Siena prior to Mediterranean Cruise

I am looking for advice for an itinerary. We will flying to Rome prior to a Mediterranean cruise in April 2024. We are staying in Rome for 3 nights and then heading to Siena for 3 nights and then on to Venice to meet up with our cruise ship. What are the best day trips from Siena? Our cruise ship has us in Florence for a day, but we'd also like to spend another day there on our own prior to the cruise. Are we better off doing a day trip from Rome to Florence or a day trip from Siena to Florence? I'd like to rent a car in Siena to visit places such as Gaiole in Chianti, San Gimignano, Montepulciano.

Another option is to completely skip the Tuscany area and head to Cinque Terre and then to Venice, but I'm afraid we will be trying to squeeze it too much in the time we have.

Thanks for any advice!

Day trip to Florence from Siena by bus

Make sure your cruise actually departs from Venice (not Ravenna or Trieste)

Consider doing a Tuscany tour with
ToursbyRoberto.com from Siena
Rather than renting car/driving

I would suggest you from Siena, drive one day to the Chianti visiting towns like Gaiole and Radda and then San Gimignano. Another day in Siena. Stop in Florence on your way towards Venice

Echoing Christine's good advice: Make SURE your cruise actually departs from Venice and not Ravenna, Chioggia or Trieste.
