Rome and Santa Margherita with children

We are planning a trip to Rome at the end of July - with extended family; there will be 6 adults and 5 children (ages 3-9-years-old). Are there any tours of the Collosseum (or other landmarks in Rome) that are geared toward children? We will only have about 8 days and would like to also take them to Santa Margherita. My husband and I have been to both places, but not with children. How long is it from Rome to Santa Margherita via train? Would it be too long of a non-stop trip? I'm thinking we would fly into Rome and out of Pisa; and perhaps show them Pisa for a 1/2 day before we depart. Any other ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Grazie a tutti!

Mary, Prego! The rail trip from Roma Termini to S. Margherita Ligure will take between 4.5 and 5.5 hours, depending on which train you choose, with at least one change. If S. Margherita will be your last stop, Milan / MXP will likely provide more flight choices than Pisa. As you've been to S. Margherita Ligure previously, I'm sure you remember that you'll have to walk down the stairs from the station to reach the main part of the town (or take a Taxi). Rather than stay in S. Margherita, you could also stay in other locations in the area, perhaps the Cinque Terre or Levanto. The C.T. makes a good base for exploring that area. I'm not aware of any "kid friendly" tours of the Colosseum or other sites in Rome. You might just have to take short tours, appropriate to their attention span. Happy travels!

The Borghese Gardens...not a site persay, but a great place for the kids to let off some steam. Surry bicycles, small train and of course the zoo.
