Rome and Florence in January- which coat?

I will be visiting Rome and Florence in January. Temps average from the 30s to 50s. I'm trying to blend in or at least not stand out. What kind of coat will most Italian women be wearing? Would an all-weather type coat with a zip out liner or a knee length wool coat be more appropriate?

Thanks to everyone who has helped me plan this far, it's been very helpful.

It has to be able to stand the rain - you see a lot of coats that come down below the waist here but not exactly long - like sporty parkas with with belts and fake fur trim on the collar. Those are very popular in Florence at least!

So I think I am saying your first choice... :)
