Rome and Florence in December/Christmas

Hello! I am finally able to travel and going back to my favorite country - Italy. However, I have never been in December. Has anyone been to Rome and Florence over the holidays? I plan to do 8 nights in Rome and then Christmas weekend (4 nights) in Florence. Then back to Rome for two nights before home. My question is - will Florence be completely dead on the 25/26th? I imagine some hotel restaurants will be open? If anyone has been during this time I'd love some feedback. Would I be better off staying in Rome for the holiday weekend? (Also I have done all the tourists sites so am happy to wander the streets, visit whatever museums that are open, visit churches... and eat and eat and eat! So if museums/sites are closed that won't matter as much to me) Grazie!

Just a head’s up that Rome was packed with visiting Italians over New Years. We were there 12/27-1/3.

Ah okay, I think Italian's go on vacation after the 26th so maybe Rome is a hot spot for NYE. We would be leaving on 27th or 28th.
