In Oct 2014 {yep 2014} 3 of us will be going to Rome for 5 days and the to Cingue Terra would like any help on places to stay? Same place for each city so we don't have to pack up again for 5 days. Budget friendly! Then on the train ride is there a cute town in between for a overnight stay? Thanks for any and all input.
Since every posting in this section is about Italy, you might want to rename your posting to something less generic. As to your question, are you really talking about 2014 or is that a typo?
Barbara, You might find it helpful to have a look at a copy of the Italy 2012 Guidebook, as there are lots of listings there for comfortable, "budget friendly" Hotels in both Rome and the Cinque Terre. The 2013 edition of the Italy Guidebook will be released October 30th, but I doubt the listings will change much. You should be able to find the current books at your local Library or larger book stores. The Guidebooks are also available in a variety of E-book formats (usually released about three months after the print versions). There are a couple of points you'll have to decide on when choosing accommodations in each location. In Rome you'll have to decide which part of the city you want to stay in. I normally prefer the Termini area, as it's so convenient for transportation, but the Trastevere area is nice and somewhat unique. In the Cinque Terre you'll have to decide which of the five towns you want to stay in. Many of Rick's readers prefer Vernazza, but my favourite is Monterosso. Good luck with your planning!
And I thought I was a little obsessive for planning a little over a year ahead. :-) Definitely pick up a copy of the RS Italy guidebook. It's loaded with info. Maybe pick up a used copy now and a 2014 edition when it comes out in late 2013. FWIW, there's no way you'll be able to make reservations this far in advance, so don't worry yet about finding lodging. (FWIW, we're traveling in May 2013 and I'm just now starting to make reservations.) As for someplace between Rome and the Cinque Terre, you'll be able to get a good idea of what matches YOUR interests after you read through the RS Italy book. Happy (future) travels.
