I am planning a 10-14 day trip in August to Rome for the culture / food / sights plus a few days on the Amalfi Coast for rest & relaxation with my 15- & 13-yr olds. I know it will be very hot, but that is the only time we can go. They both love to travel and have been begging to go to Italy for a few years. I was thinking of renting an apartment (VRBO-type) in Rome and staying at a more indulgent resort on the backend at the Amalfi Coast. Can anyone offer suggestions on what part of Rome to stay in? Recommendations for the Amalfi Coast? Other? I am just beginning my research. Rick Steve's lead me through a week in Paris so well that now I am a back for more guidance. I welcome your advice.
I like to recommend the Prati area for an apartment. It's near the Vatican but acts less touristy than you'd think. It is well-connected by bus, tram, Metro and walking to the Centro Storico. We've had two visiting families choose Prati and they enjoyed the area very much. Should be tons listed on VRBO.
In the event that a private driver is not in your funding for the Amalfi Coast - take the train rather to Salerno rather than Naples and afterward the ship to Amalfi - relying upon where you are staying, Positano or Amalfi, that ship will stop at both of those two towns and cost a great deal short of what an auto exchange however the exchange is a decent, advantageous approach to arrive.
In the event that you have made sense of what you need to see and do in these goals and concluded that is the measure of time you have to do those things, then the schedule is fine.
My supposition is that fly slack will improve of you on the first day - so attempt to stay outside (sun is beneficial for it) and not do anything that truly obliges your center - meandering Venice is something to be thankful for on such a day.
You will have around 2.5 days in Rome give that you will use approximately 5.5 or more hours getting there from Venice - remember you ought to add around one hour to either side of a train ride for weighing lock stock and done with cabin, getting to and from train stations, holding up at the station, and so forth - The quick prepare is 3.75 hours Venice to Rome however the various stuff includes additional time than you might suspect it will. Check out Rome travel guide for more.
I wouldn't go anyplace for short of what 4 or 5 nights given the bothers included yet that is simply individual decision.
Have a great time arranging.
