Rome, Albergo del Senato

We stayed at this wonderful hotel 2 years ago and would like to stay again however, the prices have just about tripled! Is there a better way to book than directly with the hotel? Less expensive/Priceline sort of thing? Or, is there anything comparable to this hotel in this location but perhaps less expensive?Or, is this the reality of staying in this area? Any info appreciated.

It bills itself as a luxury hotel and from the photos at least, with good reason. You'll get the best suggestions here if you share the specific price range you're looking for along with specific amenities you want. Happy travels.

$150-$200 (100-140 euro aprox) per night seems reasonable. I dunno...maybe that isn't possible. Open to suggestion. I know that a week in Rome can be "busy" and it's really nice to come back to a nice hotel at the end of 8 or 9 hours of walking. Doesn't hvae to be the Ritz but, something at least charming with comfy sheets would e great! Things like a pool, internet, spa, etc. are not important to us. Charm and comfort, are. In addition, we'll be travelling without kids for the first time in 21 years so, something a bit nicer would be great!

Have you considered renting an apartment? Palazzo Olivia is ideally located and very popular with some on this board. I haven't been inside it, but can vouch for the location. http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/

Thansk..I'll look at it. I've been on Romeloft.com and they seem to have a few things but, a little reluctant without recommendations...Will continue the search. Thanks again!

I second the recommendation for Palazzo Olivia. If they are booked, try VRBO.com HomeAway.com. Both have some lovely looking properties and there have been many positive reviews for the services.

Google Street View is a good tool for this. For fun, I just checked it. The place is part way up a hill from Trastevere, looks like kind of lonely walk, but I've never been to that hill. Trastevere has plenty of restaurants and you will not be board - or hungry - at night. Google Earth shows that the hotel is about 3/4 mile from Pz Navonna.

Seems to be a nice B&B in the Trastavere neighborhood. Are there any opinions about this area? It's on the "Locanda" on Via di Porta San Pancrazio. A small 6 room place, Locanda San Pancrazio. Is this area walking distance to...everything?? Thanks!

Budget is an important consideration on where you stay but we just came back from Italy and stayed at Albergo del Senato. I agree that it was expensive but for us it was worth it. The location was awesome and the hotel was great. We had a balcony that overlooked the Pantheon. Excellent roof top bar and top notch service. When we checked in they told us that they wanted to upgrade us to a suite without additional cost. My American instinct led me to be suspicious (maybe the room was too close to the roof top bar and noisy) but alas there was no hidden agenda. While I may sound like a postboard for the hotel, for us it was well worth the spurge and we would stay there again on return trips.

Near the Pantheon we stayed at Navona Garden Suites (see Trip Advisor) in May and liked it very much. Quiet once you get inside, big room, big comfortable beds, interior courtyard. I think we paid E160/night but it was worth it to be close to Pantheon/Navona. Good luck!
