Rome Airport-Weight Limits

Has anyone else had this problem at the Rome airport? Last summer when we were leaving Rome, the woman checking us in said that the Rome airport has a 35# weight limit per bag. We could not pay our way out of the situation. Luckily, I had an empty bag so I shifted things around and checked another bag. I discussed with United. They could not give me any info nor could I find when searching italian google. We have never had this problem before and our planning another trip to Italy? Any know the real story?

My wife would have never been able to fly back from Italy then.
35 Lb is only 16 Kg. Her carry on weighs more than that.
Maybe it's the specific airline you flew. They are the ones that set the weight rules for checked baggage, not the airport operator (ADR=Aeroporti di Roma)

From the airport website:

**Checked Luggage* Allowed weights and dimensions of checked luggage vary according to airline company. Therefore it is recommended that travelers check directly with the airline for those details and for excess baggage rates.*

Was the weight limit in pounds or kilograms?

50 lbs ~ 23 kg
70 lbs ~ 32 kg

1 kg ~ 2.2 lbs

Pretty sure the weights are in kilograms. I was six kilograms over a few years ago and had to repack before having the carryon weighed again.

Roberto is right, it's the airline that sets limits. In my case it was KLM (Delta partner).
