Rome airport to train to Naples to ferry to Positano

We are flying into Rome and want to immediately catch a train to Naples and then a ferry to Positano in late August. How do we get from the airport to the train station? How much time do we need to allow between flight arrival and train reservation?

There is a train station in front of Terminal 3 at FCO. You can take the non-stop Leonardo Express to the Rome Termini train station for 14E. Once at Rome Termini, there are 35 or so trains a day to Naples. Be cautious about making reservations close to a plane arrival time. If you buy a ticket from Rome to Naples at the ordinary fare of 43E, you'll be OK as you can exchange these tickets for a later train should your plane be late. However, if you go online and buy tickets at the Economy or Super Economy fares, you run the risk of your ticket being toast if your plane is late. Once in Napoli Centrale, take the bus to the Beverello docks to catch the ferry. Note that you can buy your tickets to Napoli Centrale at the Rome airport station. Just allow about 15 minutes transfer time at Rome Termini to the high-speed. The Leondardo Express comes in on Track 25. The high-speeds depart on other tracks. You coulld probably make it in 5-7 minutes but I'd recommend 15 minutes to get to your next train.

According to a recent thread on Lonely Planet (link below), there's no direct ferry service this year from Naples to Positano. You have to go via Capri or Sorrento. http://tinyurl.com/cubezdf

Everything they said is true but when you get to Naples, my family took the local train to Sorrento. The local train is interesting. Met a couple from Australia who took the train and as it was running along it completely stop and everyone ended up getting out. They were on strike. so before you go check online even google it for train strikes. Time passes by but you get to meet many people. Get use to whatever comes your way.
