Arriving in Rome in the morning. What is the fastest way to get to Termini to travel to Venice on a high speed train?
Fastest way is the Leonardo Express train to Termini. It's relatively expensive, but there are trains every few minutes.
Before you get on the train, don't forget to get the ticket stamped in the yellow machine. Their train police monitor the tickets religiously, and they'll get you for a large fine on the spot if the ticket wasn't validated.
There is a direct train from FCO to Venezia Santa Lucia at 11:08 and 15:08; what date is your flight?
Oh, I'm not going for a long while. The beginning of November. Couldn't sleep last night and was roaming the Ricksteves site and posted the question. Thank you for you answers.
I checked Trenitalia for a random date in June, not sure if the direct train is seasonal or runs all year. You can buy one ticket from FCO-Venezia SL, and not have to validate it (it will come with a carriage and seat reservation).
Thanks Zoe. I will probably go this route, but will check the timetable at http://www.thetrainline-europe.com/train/rome-fiumicino-airport-fco-to-venezia-santa-lucia~8301512~8300094 after July 1, after the timetables change. Thank you.
Use this site, it should save some money.

ms,
It would help to have some idea what time your flight arrives, as there are several options.
If you're not able to connect with one of the direct trains to Venice, the easiest solution is the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini (32 minutes, €14 PP). You can buy tickets at the airport rail station, either from a Kiosk or staffed ticket office. You can also buy your tickets for the trip to Venice at the same time.
Note that there are two trains serving the airport, the L.E. and the FM/FR-1. Be sure to board the correct train or you won't end up at Termini. Also note that you MUST validate your ticket prior to boarding the train or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!
Use the Trenitalia website to check times and other details.
My flight is supposed to arrive at 8:10 in the morning.
Unless your flight is delayed, you should be able to take the 11:08.
