Rome Airport to downtown Rome by train?

Is there a train from the Rome airport to downtown area? Our hotel is near the termini station in Rome so it would be walking distance for us.

Darla, To add to the information provided by Frank, I've found the cost on the Leonardo Express to be €14 PP if purchased from the ticket machines and €15 PP if purchased at one of the ticket windows. DON'T forget to validate using the yellow machines prior to boarding the train. The train arrives on Track 25 at Roma Termini, which is a few hundred yards from the "main" part of the station, so a short walk will be necessary. Depending on which Hotel you're using, you can exit Termini via one of the side doors, or walk straight ahead and exit that way. Happy travels!

The ride on the Leonardo Express takes 32 minutes. If you don't mind a slower ride and want to save some money, take the SITBus shuttle from Fiumicino to Termini. The fare is €8.

Thanks Frank, Ken and Tim. I just now have to figure out which one to take. They all seem pretty easy to do. A cab in 45 Euro plus tip, so all of the options are a better deal. It will be Easter week in Rome so it may be crowded.

For the SITBus Shuttle, is there a place at the airport to buy a ticket? Or would you recommend purchasing a ticket online. My only concern with an online ticket would be if I didn't make it to the bus stop on time due to any delays. Thanks

According to the SITBus shuttle Web site, you can buy a ticket from the bus driver.

Tim is correct. No reason to buy on online even if you could which I doubt.

We had planned to take the train to Termini when we flew into Rome, but we were approached by a woman who offered to drive us in her van and drop us off at our hotel. She charged 15 euros each. We waited about 5 minutes for her to round up some more people, then off we went. She pointed out landmarks on the way and dropped us off at the hotel as promised. After such a long trip it was nice to not have to deal with the train and then find our way to our hotel from Termini.
