I understand that there is a short cut from Rome -fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia. This is done by taking a short bus ride from the Airport to the train station Maccarese-fregene. From there you take the train to Civitavecchia. Has anyone taken this way before? I need to know if this is doable. I read a blog on TripAdvisor about this alternative route?

The following site shows how to do it, but you need to go into the town of Fiumicino: https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Fiumicino/Civitavecchia Google and the official airport site don't yield this solution. Personally, I would go into Rome as there are so many more trains in case of snafu.
