Rome Airport Questions

We are flying into Rome Fiumicino airport, staying at the Airport Hilton, then taking the Leonardo Express into central Rome Termini station the next day. Are the hotel and train station walk-able, and how long should we plan for walking between each?

Are you going to Termini to connect to another train? Will the complimentary shuttle leave you at Termini so you don't need to take the Leonardo?

Termini Station - Stazione Termini - is crazy busy. If you have a lot of luggage, just be careful on the train. Do not put anything of value in any pockets - jackets, pants or backpack front pockets. If your traveling companion has a purse, make sure it has a top zipper, and keep the purse/bag in front of you.

First let me ask you a question. Is there a reason why you are not going to downtown Rome immediately, instead of stopping for a night at the airport Hilton? Are you arriving so late in the evening that you don’t think you can take a 30 min taxi to the city center?

I’ve done what you did (check in at the Hilton upon arrival) only once because my arrival was in the evening, and didn’t feel like driving up to Tuscany on a rental car after a long flight from California (so I picked up the car the next morning). But I’m not sure why you are doing it in your case since you intend to proceed by train to the city the next morning.

Having said that, the walk from the Terminal 3 to the Hilton is about 10 min on an elevated skywalk. Follow the sign to the H, representing the Hilton logo. At the end of the skywalk take the elevator down to the ground floor and walk back the last 50yards to the Hilton entrance. The next morning do the same in reverse, but in the skywalk instead of going back to the terminal, follow the skywalk to the station. It’s about the same distance (maybe 10 min walk).

We get into Rome at 11:30pm after 14 hour trip from San Francisco via Munich. Next day we train to Lucca. Leonardo Express stops running at 11:37pm. After that long of a trip don't want the additional complication of going into Rome in the middle of the night.

Not sure if you can still revisit your flight plans but if you can and if the price is decent check if you can fly to either Pisa (25 min from Lucca) or Florence (one hour from Lucca).
I usually take your very same flight to Florence (via Munich).
Lufthansa flies from Munich to both Florence and Pisa. The flight is operated by Air Dolomiti, a regional airline part of the Lufthansa Group. They don’t use a prop plane, it’s an Embraer 190 Jet.
