Rome airport lodgings?

We must stay in Rome briefly on our way between Catania and Seattle. Are there any recommendations of convenient places to stay near the airport?

We really liked the Hotel Tiber, with a lovely location along the river and good walkable restaurants nearby. They have a shuttle to take you from & to FCO. Good breakfast included with room, starting service early in the morning. A really pleasant place to end your trip.

Or you can stay at the Hilton and just walk to the hotel from the airport. A bit more expensive ($30 breakfast) and not as scenic.

Thank you, Charlene. I have booked that hotel for our last night. It looks like a relatively peaceful area close to the airport.

Victoria,

About the most convenient (although not the cheapest) is the Rome Airport Hilton, which is connected to the terminals via a covered walkway. It's not the most scenic area, but if you're only going to be there one night, you may want to rest and get over jet lag so it will be fine for that.

We had to find a good hotel when leaving Roma and having an early morning flight the next day. We found BEST WESTERN Hotel Riviera Rome Fiumicino a short shuttle ride from the airport FCO. We really liked this place as it was a 3 minute walk to the beach and that is how we spend our last day. Couple of nice restaurants in walking distance. Not a big town, but if you have to catch a plane and want to be somewhere not to far away it is a good place. I checked the web site and it cost apron 106 Euros a night with breakfast.

Victoria,

I was stranded an extra day in Rome thanks to a cancelled flight. The airline put us up in an airport hotel and I really can't recommend the experience.

1) The rooms were smoking rooms and ours had two single beds. (Very FEW non-smoking rooms in the hotel!) A "king" room was a 250 euro upgrade...

2) The food at the hotel restaurant was twice what even a tourist restaurant in Rome costs but was even worse quality.

3) a can of cola was 6 euro!

With the airport being just a 35 minute train ride from termini or a private transfer being about 45 euro, I would recommend staying in the city unless your flight departs obnoxiously early. You will have a much better memory of Rome if you stay in the city versus the airport.

I ditto the above post. There is no advantage to staying at a Rome airport hotel over just staying in Rome and paying for a cab at 48-50 euro.
