I sm thinking of purcahsing a mini Ipad instead of lugging my computer. You have to have a "chip" to run it in Europe-please explain, thanks Holly

You need a SIM chip if you want 3G service as you would with a cell phone. I think there are places in the airport to get one. I usually just go to a TIM store.

Either at the airport or the main train station. Go to a TIM store - I've found TIM had the best coverage available (3 years ago). If you buy one from a vendor, you'll have to go to the TIM store anyway to register the SIM card (learned the hard way after I bought one from a kiosk, got to my hotel and the phone wouldn't work, and had to go back to the TIM store to activate it). Take your passport with you to register it - no address was needed. Jim
