You can make it to the airport but not to the plane if you're coming back to the U.S. I plan on 3 hours to get through T5 to the gate.

Couple of questions -- is it a direct flight to the US or a connecting flight in Europe and then the US -- a huge difference !!! Time of Day??? Best option will probably be a taxi provided it is not rush hour. The Leonard Express would take a max of one hour. Rome also has a 45 min cut off for check in. Probability of success is low.

It would be close but I think you could do it. It's only like a 30 minute train ride.

I WOULD TAKE A TAKI OR LIMO TO ASSURE A FASTER TRIP ?

What time of day are you traveling, Peter? That will make a big difference. If it's rush hour, the train will be faster -- take the Leonardo Express - no stops. If it's very early or very late, a taxi will be faster.

We planned on 2 hours for a US departure from Rome FCO and had plenty of time to kill -- that was on June 6.

It is true that Leonard Express trip only takes about 30 minutes but there are only two an hour which means if you just miss it you have to wait another 30 minutes so plan on an hour for the train.

We had a three hour window a couple of years ago, and almosr missed our flight. This year we had no problem. I always alot at least three hours for an outbound flight out of FCO.

Contact "Rome Cabs" and arrange for a shuttle. For a very good price they they will arrange a private transfer, and will be waiting at the train station for you. When they got us to FCO this June, they even had someone waiting to wisk us thru the lines so that we would not miss our flight.

Two hours and 20 min from Florence train station to Rome Airport or two hr. and 20 min. from Rome Termini to Rome Airport? Huge difference!

What time is your flight out? This is very important. The earilest train from Florence arrives in Rome at 8:24. The earliest high-speed arrives at 8:45. Add 45 minutes or so to change trains and to get to FCO and you are looking at 9:30am. Then, you could experience up to 3hrs to get through the security at Terminal 5. If your plane departs before 12:30pm, you could risk missing your flight.

Thank You all,

There are so many different replies that I am hesitant to try it. I only have 2hr 20 min to get from the Rome train station by either taxi or limo and through security at the airport.

Peter, if you can change your train ticket, I would do so. You might be able to make it, but it will be molto stressful -- not a fun way to travel. A little adrenalin can add to the fun, but too much - bleaah!

We took the Leonardo Express and it kept stopping, so it took three times as long and turned out to be 7E cheaper than if we had just taken a cab.

There were three of us. Don't know if you're traveling solo. Forgive me if I missed it.

The owner of our B&B said it's the best money spent to just take a cab. Gets you right there and no worries.

Have a fun trip!

Are you are trying to get from the train station in Florence to the Rome airport in 2.5 hours? If so, this is a big problem. The fastest train still takes over an hour and only gets you to the Rome train station and not the airport.

If the 2 hours, 20 minutes is from the Rome train station to the airport, then it will be tight but ok. Take a cab, as they are required to only charge you 40 euro. If someone quoted you $1000 to get from Rome to the airport, that is a complete rip-off. If that's a quote to get you from Florence to the Rome airport, you will probably want to figure out some way to get to Rome earlier or change your flight.

Thank you all. I have changed plans and will arrive in Rome the day before. All of your responses helped a great deal.
