Rome airport

I am having trouble understanding train service from Rome airport to Naples. Do trains run often? I have read they only run one or two a day.

Nancy,

You'll actually be using two trains for that route.

You'll first take the Leonardo Express from FCO to Roma Termini. There are frequent departures (about every half hour as I recall) and fare is about €14 PP. DON'T forget to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train, or you'll be subject to hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

At Roma Termini you'll connect with the Freccia high speed train to Naples. Again, there are frequent departures of those also. Check the Trenitalia website for the specific details. Note that your ticket will be for a specific train, date and departure time and you MUST use the train listed on your ticket or again, hefty fines. Your ticket will specify your Car No. and Seat No.

You can buy tickets for both trains at the FCO airport station, either from a staffed ticket window or a Kiosk.

Happy travels!

If you are reading 1 or 2 trains a day, I suggest you disregard the source. As Ken explains, the Leonardo Express departs the airport every 30 minutes all during the early morning and all day long into the evening. 38 runs per day for this train according to www.trenitalia.com Note, however, that Trenitalia has not yet uploaded all of their schedule changes and refreshes. This is due June 14. If you look out beyond this date, you may not see all of the runs. If you look just a few days ahead from now, you will.

For the Roma-Termini to Napoli Centrale journey, there are 50 runs during the day. 24 are high-speed Freccia trains with a good deal of these being non-stops that take 1hr10min. You can see what I see on www.trenitalia.com

The train service at the airport is only between the airport and Termini. From Rome use bahn.com to see the schedules if trenitalia.com is giving you trouble.

Nancy,

There are more trains from the airport then just the Leonardo Express. The express only serves the airport and Roma Termini. However, you can also take the FR1 (Metropolitan train) which will not bring you to Roma Termini but will bring you to Roma Tiburtina where you can also catch trains to Naples and have the option of taking the Italo train.

The RoninRome site has excellent infer nation of transport to and from Fiumicino.

Have fun, Naples is wonderful.

Once upon a time, there were actually trains directly from Rome Fiumicino airport to Naples or to Florence, available to Alitalia customers only. Unfortunately, they only operated for about a year or two, and haven't operated for at least 15 years. So, as stated above, you have to take two separate trains to get from Fiumicino to Naples.
