I have found that VRBO is a great source for Rome and Venice. Of course prices will depend on number of bedrooms and bathrooms but those are details you haven't given us. 1 mile? That's easy but look at the map and I suggest select a specific area - my favorite for nearly 20 years, is Piazza Navona/Campo di Fiore area (not right on either). Easy walk to Vatican, Pantheon, Trastevere and (if you're energetic enough) even the Forum!

Are you considering a hotel as well as apts? I have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen several times, but not since the pandemic. It is a typical Rick Steves' hotel (plain with a good breakfast and a good location.) I have always had a satisfactory stay.
