Rome Accommodations

I am looking for a B&B, hotel, or apartment for 3 nights & also a separate stay of 2 nights (end of May and beginning of June). I have searched through the forums here, airbnb, venere, and vrbo but can not find anything decent (clean, simple, good location, safe) for 80E or less per night for 2 people. I have all other cities we are visiting in our 5 week trip taken care of except for Rome. Am I holding on to an impossible budget? Any recs?

Update 2/9/10 - I found 2 places -
"Rosybindi" at http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1741
and
"Aldebaran" at http://www.aldebaranholidays.com/ita/home.asp
Rosybindi is on the south outskirt of the Travestere and reviews say it takes about a 10 min metro ride to get into the city center. It's an apartment all to ourselves for 65 euro a night. Aldebaran looks to be in a good location near the city center, about a 10 min way from the Colossom. It's a B&B, double room, shared bath for 80euro a night. I can't decide if its worth the extra 15euros a night to be closer to the city center. It looks to be with either of them, we'll have 10 mins of traveling to the city center. What do you think? Anyone have any experience with these - they both have nice reviews?

Thanks Tom. I really like Aldebaran. They are both a bit above my budget but I just emailed them both to see if they would offer any discounts for cash payment or multiple stays. I'm crossing my fingers.

We stayed at a great b&b in Rome. It is called At Your Place. Check it out on Trip Advisor, I think it is rated #1. It is located 10 minutes from the Vatican and is close to public transportation. It is small - 5 rooms and is located on the 5th floor of a lovely building (lift in building.) This b&b was very reasonably priced and lovely. The ownwer, Luca, is wonderful and helpful. Breakfasts are terrific, too. I highly recommend this place.

Another possibiity would be to check ot venere.com; put Rome in the city search. Venere gives lodgings on a very wide range of costs from very inexpensive to fairly expensive; the lodging ratings are generally reliable.

Jessica,

Rome tends to be a bit "pricey" so finding something for €80 or less might be a bit of a challenge. You didn't indicate if you've checked the Italy or Rome Guidebooks, but there are numerous good listings there in various price ranges and different parts of the city.

One other possibility you might consider would be to stay in a Hostel. There are private double rooms available (often with two single beds), but the price is right! Have a look at www.the-beehive.com/ for one example (they also have some apartments available, so it might be worthwhile to enquire). The Beehive is an easy walk from Roma Termini, so a convenient location.

Also have a look at www.hostelsalessandro.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=33 for another example. Unfortunately, the Doubles at this location appear to be above your budget limit.

Finally, have a look at www.fawltytowers.org/ for another Hostel that offers double rooms (I believe this Hostel is listed in Rick's Guidebooks).

Double rooms tend to book-up early, so it's a good idea to reserve as soon as possible.

Incidentally, I'll also be in Rome towards the last week of May (looking forward to it!!!).

Good luck and happy travels!

I have stayed at Hotel Cervia Roma a couple times (2007 and 2009) and was fine staying there. Nothing fancy but if your expectations arent too high its nice enough.

This is NOT a recommendation... but if the other actual recommendations don't work, consider the Texas Seven Hills.

It is very basic, pretty dingy, marginally clean, but cheap (really cheap, for Rome), walking distance from Termini station, quiet (if you get a room on the courtyard - don't sleep street-side), and the employees were all very helpful.

A double with private bath is listed as 44 Euro, and you can go even cheaper if you don't mind having the bath down the hall.

As I said... not a recommendation... but very stay-able as a possible last resort.

Finding something nice, but cheap is going to be difficult. Roma is expensive, not as costly as Venice, but, you will pay for being there. You might try venere.com to find all sorts of accommodations with client reviews. I have used it many times and have been happy with the service.

Last summer we stayed at a new b&b called Armonio All' Opera across the street from the Roma Opera house. It is located on the 4th floor and you access the place using a classic antique elevator. The neighborhood is quiet with restaurants and some cafes. The cost was 90 euro for 2. It is located between 2 metro stops; Repubblica and Termini.

Buon viaggio,

RB

Have you considered a convent? They are comfortable, clean, safe, and many are within your budget. Plus, it is an interesting experience. Some, but not all, have curfews. If you are a late nighter then look for one without a curfew. Here are 2 websites with more info: santasusanna.org and monasterystays.com

On our first trip to Rome, we stayed about 20-30 minutes outside Termini in the village of Palestrina. The B&B is called Anne's Place (http://www.byanne.com). It's a wonderfully cozy place with unsurpassed hospitality from the hosts, Anne and David. It's in your price range and you will not find anything comparable in the city. We really enjoyed "escaping" back to Palestrina each evening...the village has some wonderful restaurants serving authentic cuisine at great prices.

Hi, on my first trip to Rome I stayed at a convent - a few blocks from the Vatican. I think it was near the Ottaviano stop? It was called Casa Maria Immacolata and I know they had BF, maybe even dinner. It's at 28 Via Ezio.
