Rome: a very small thing but....metal water bottle (insulated)

For years I've always carried a Zojirushi refillable insulated stainless steel water bottle and had intended to bring it along for our trip. Will it be taken from me in security situations (art galleries, vatican museum, churches with security) or will I be forced to check it vs. carry it with me? (It's just 10 oz bottle). I have a thing about cold water and this insulates for the entire day and I'm a happier traveler for it.

thanks.

bean (officially the silliest thing I've ever asked but I'm assembling my carry-on today).

I carry something similar and have never run into an issue anywhere with it. Having said that, I carry it in my large purse or small backpack as opposed to loose in my hand.

THANK YOU!!!!! and, yes, I have a bottle pocket in my travelon purse or my tiny backpack (depending on which I choose). You just made an aging gal rather happy.

I'm guessing museums and galleries are nervous about people having water around the art, so I would plan to be discreet in using your bottle.

Janet: I would never pull it out in a gallery or such but have it for outside - I do keep it in the bottle pocket of my bag. Was more worried as someone mentioned that metal bottles are a no-no (on another post).

I wouldn't try to take it into the Galleria Borghese. Expect it to remain out of your control. They will give you a small clear bag for important personal items and nothing else.

Hi Bean_nyc.

I had the same concerns as you, and since my trip was originally scheduled for 2020, I asked that very same question in 2019. The impression I got was the the water bottles would not be OK. My trip was this last summer. We were a group of six. At least three of us always had a water bottle with us (insulated) and others sometimes had plastic ones. I carried a 16 oz hydroflask and so did my daughter. My husband and son had 18 oz simple modern bottles. We had our bottles in our day bags (small crossbodies except my daughter who carried a lightweight canvas tote). We carried our bottles everywhere and into museums (but never took them out in any of the galleries). Never had a problem. The only place we did not have them was at the Borghese Gallery where you must check all of our bags (even the small crossbodies).

Enjoy your trip!
