rome 6 nights / should i stay in two areas

I have reservations at Hotel San Carlo(near Spanish steps) for 3 nights in late June. I will be in Rome 3 additional nights.
Should I remain at same hotel rather than go to trouble of moving or is it worth the effort to be in a different area half the time.

You'll lose at least 1/2 a day for the transfer. Worth it to you?

First, I would not stay in the Spanish steps area. It is overrun by tourist. I would look for a better location for six nights total. Rome is compact enough that any location in the central will be convenient to nearly everything else.

Sharon, I really don't see any need to move. It would just chew up time better spent having fun, and your current hotel looks to be very nice so I'd stay put.

Rome is easy to do on foot wherever you're based (within reason). No need to change location.

Congrats on your upcoming trip, Sharon! A single base of operations is best. No need to move. For my first trip to Italy, I stayed in the Monti district all 9 days and loved the feeling of knowing "my part of town" a little better because I was moseying through the streets and corridors daily.

Happy planning!

Unproductive and unnecessary to change..

Stay in one place all 6 nights

Why move? Rome is very walkable.
We stayed 6 nights right near the Pantheon. Loved it. Walked everywhere.

If it's 6 consecutive nights, then I would not move. Your hotel is close to the metro, so it won't be hard to get all over the city. It looks to be not far from major bus lines too. Good choice - don't worry about being in a tourist area, most convenient locations are just that.

thanks to everyone for your comment....most all of you suggested staying put in one location.....interesting that when I posed question to rick steves tour people they said they would move to a different location to experience a second area

Rick Steves thinks highly of the hotel and it gets nice reviews from travelers. The rooftop breakfast terrace looks really pleasant. As Chani mentions it's a really convenient location! I would definitely not move.

If I was going for 2 weeks or more to immerse myself in the city, I might spend a week in one location then move to another to experience a different neighborhood. But for a 6 night visit I would most definitely stay in one central location - why mess with changing hotels for just 3 nights.
