Rome 4/21 - the anniversary - will this cause problems as tourists?

We will arrive in Rome on 4/21 and I understand they will be celebrating the birthday of Rome. While I have been to Rome several times, two of my companions on this trip have never been there. I will only have two days to show them the high points and am concerned about difficulties the elaboration may cause. Does anyone have any insight - help please.

Most Romans have no idea of this birthday thing. You'll find many more crowds from the 25th of april (National Liberation Day) through May 1 (Labor day). Apr. 21 is a Sunday though, therefore the Vatican museums I think are closed and there will be the usual crowds at St. Peter's.

Thanks. I read they will have special light shows, parades and fireworks. Planned to do the Forum and as much of the other main sights on Sunday and preorder tickets for the Vatican on Monday with the hop on hop off the rest of that day. With the short time we have this trip I am trying to figure the best way for them to get a taste of as much as possible - not an easy task!
