Rome 4 1/2 days

We will go to Rome on August 12 and leave on 17th afternoon (flying out from Fiumicino to London around 6pm). I already reserved the tour of Vatican City on 8/13 and plan to visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Capitol hill on day 2 (not sure if we can do that in one day?). Any suggestion for the rest 2 1/2 days?? Will the National Museum of Rome take up half a day?

You may need to juggle you schedule a bit. The 14th is a Sunday and you might want to take advantage of the Appian Way being closed to most traffic and see the catacombs. Monday, the 15th, can be a problem because many (not all) sites are closed that day so you need to double check what is open and not via the web. Buy the museum pass so you can by pass the purchase ticket lines. You may want to push day 2 to Tuesday. Any good museum can take from one hour to ten hours - just depends on what you want to see and for how long. The Rome museum could take a day.

Don't forget all the wonderful piazzas around Rome, you can just walk and walk. There is the Trevi Fountain, the Parthenon, the Jewish Ghetto...all very walkable from the Colosseum area. Walk to the Spanish Steps, then shopping along the Corso. Right there is day 3 and for day 4......
You might also consider a day trip to Ostia Antica. It's a Metro ticket to get there...maybe 1.5 hours transit. Take a picnic lunch and eat under a tree, or you can eat at the cafe on the grounds. There is an entrance fee to see this sight. It's fun to wander the grounds and walk within the ruins. The last day would just be a relaxing time, find a nice street, wander up and down, spend a hour or two sitting at an outdoor cafe enjoying a meal or coffee and people watch.
