Rome's "La Botticella" a.k.a. Steelers Country

In case you didn't know, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a very international fanbase (http://www.steelers-fan.com/fanbars2.html), and as any Steeler fan would do, I did a search for places to watch the Steeler game while I'm in Rome in September. Just thought it would be an interesting experience. And I'm from Pittsburgh so watching Steeler football is what we do best... ANYWAY, I found this place called "La Botticella" near Piazza Navona that is supposed to the "cantina of choice for Steeler fans" in Rome (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09137/970552-66.stm). Has any one been there? If you've gone during a telecast of the game, that would be great to hear, but any other stories or experiences would be welcomed too. Thanks!

No info on your ACTUAL question, but...Just promise us you won't apply make-up while you're there ;-) A little lipgloss - OK. Beer wreaks havoc on a girl's lipgloss. I did check out their Facebook page; my alma mater's flag is hanging behind the bar (Texas A&M - Whoop!), so it can't be all bad...

LOL @ Mary. Ok I promise to limit the nail clipping and eyelash curling for after I leave La Botticella :-) The owner seems like a real fan of American sports.

I've heard of it but haven't visited it yet. Let me know what you think. My hubby wears nothing but steeler clothing even while on vacation. You won't believe the number of conversations that have started because the locals recognize the Steeler logo. Donna

OK time to find the Patriots bar I guess

Joe: I don't think you'll have much success, but you're more likely to find that than a Browns bar. They don't even have those in Cleveland... If it helps, I love the Red Sox! :-)

Where can I watch the 49er's game? That's what I want to know. Or the Bills? My hubby is from Buffalo.

I look out for my fellow RS readers/football fans and so this is what I've discovered: although you might not be able to find a pub that caters to your team of choice, your best bet would be to find an Irish pub, cozy up to the owner (or outright ask) to see if you can watch your team. www.irishpubsdirectory.com/italy has them all listed by city. If you're in Rome, I hear Finnegan's or Scholar's Lounge are good options. Or you can join the Steeler Nation at La Botticella's. I'll save you all a seat :-)

Going to be in Italy during the baseball playoffs. In Sorrento. Does anyone know where I can watch the Yankees kick butt?

Camille, hmmmm seeing as the Pirates haven't played in the month of October since the 80s, and seeing as I'm more of a Sox fan, I wasn't going to address your post, but.... I love Sorrento and I find that people are so willing to cater to your needs. We didn't ask for this, but the consierge in our hotel put on satellite radio and had some hip hop and R&B playing while we sat at the bar in the lobby area LOL - it was hilarious and such a paradox. At any rate, try this place http://www.chaplinspub.com/ It has satellite TV and I'm sure they will let you watch the Evil Empire, I mean Yankess.

Hi Monique I made a pilgrimage to the bar last spring when we were in Rome. Well worth it!! Great steeler memorabiia and Pittsburgh artifacts everywhere. My wife and I met some Steeler fans from Britain and had a lot of fun talking and drinking with them. The husband was very proud of the fact that his wife had already learned to hate the f%$#*!^ Ravens in a very short time. I think their marriage is on a stable foundation. The ownwer Giovanni is very friendly and interested in all things Pittsburgh (and from what I remember young women)-I highly recommend going there Mike DC

Here in Seattle we refer to them as the "Stealers."

It never ceases to amaze me how nuts Steelers fans are! LOL! I was in Rome 2 years ago with my BF Tom who is from Pittsburgh (and of course a INSANE Steelers fan) and we came upon La Botticella, we were drawn to it because it had a Steelers banner out front, something we never expected to see. We went in and talked to the owner who if I''m not mistaken was of Roman birth but lived in Pitt for a while. Nice place, I'm sure that it would be fun to watch a game and drink some Iron City beer there! I have of picture of Tom Pointing to the Steelers banner, too bad I can't post it!

Mike and Andrew - Thanks!! I can't wait to go! ...Neil, can't say much about your nickname. When I find a Seahawks bar in Rome (doubtful!!!!) I'll be sure to let you know where it is.
